Wrinkles, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation can detract from the skin’s overall appearance. Unfortunately, while drugstore shelves are full of creams and lotions that promise to help, the results are inconsistent and sometimes non-existent.

Wrinkles, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation can detract from the skin’s overall appearance. Unfortunately, while drugstore shelves are full of creams and lotions that promise to help, the results are inconsistent and sometimes non-existent.

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, stimulates the body’s natural healing processes. At SafiraMD Medical Aesthetics & Wellness Center, our microneedling procedures provide a safe and effective method to restore your skin’s texture and tone, enhancing your overall appearance.

What Is Microneedling?

With microneedling, tiny micro-injuries are created in the top layer of the skin, stimulating collagen production and activating your skin’s natural, self-healing properties. We use a handheld device with tiny needles to make precise, microscopic punctures.

These minuscule injuries stimulate your skin to begin the process of dermal remodeling. When we target the areas of cosmetic concern, we can harness your natural healing response, activating your skin’s collagen production in a specific area to provide noticeable improvements.

The micro-injuries also open up treatment channels to better absorb skincare products or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), achieving a more thorough skin rejuvenation.

What Conditions Does Microneedling Treat?

Patients turn to microneedling for many common skin concerns, as increased collagen production provides skin tightening and overall skin rejuvenation.

Microneedling treats many cosmetic issues, including:

  • Dull skin tone
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Excess skin from rapid weight loss
  • Stretch marks
  • Poor complexion
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sunspots
  • Acne scars
  • Other facial scarring

Since microneedling works with the body’s natural healing response, it works for all skin types and tones.

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Microneedling provides skin rejuvenation on a cellular level. The micro-injuries created through microneedling signal the skin to turn cells over faster and increase collagen production, providing support for the skin.

The fresh new cells and increased collagen provide a skin tightening effect, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. Additionally, the new cells and increased production lessen the appearance of pores and the depth of scars, providing a more even texture for the skin.

Best of all, through the cell turnover process, your skin will develop an increased radiance and softness. Additionally, your skincare products will be better absorbed and more effective.

What Should I Expect from a Microneedling Procedure?

At SafiraMD, any cosmetic procedure begins with a full consultation to discuss the treatment and your overall aesthetic goals. This consultation allows you to ask questions and point out any specific areas of concern.

Before Your Microneedling Procedure

In the week leading up to your microneedling procedure, cease using any harsh exfoliants to avoid irritating your skin, and use mild skin cleansers. In addition, drink lots of water to aid your skin in cell turnover and healing.

Check with the expert team at SafiraMD before you schedule any other skin treatments before or after your microneedling procedure.

During Your Microneedling Procedure

Immediately before your treatment, remove any makeup and clean your skin. Refrain from using any moisturizer, oils, or medicines in the designated area. We will apply a topical anesthetic to your face before treatment if desired. However, many patients opt to skip this step.

Then, we will use the microneedling tool to cover your targeted areas thoroughly. The treatment itself takes about one hour. Immediately after the treatment, we’ll apply a soothing serum to facilitate the healing process and calm the skin.

After Your Microneedling Procedure

If you opted for a topical anesthetic, full sensation in your face should return about two hours post-procedure. Since microneedling requires no downtime, you can immediately return to your everyday activities.

Complete healing takes two or three days. During this time, continue to be gentle with your skin, avoiding harsh exfoliants and prolonged sun exposure. In addition, you can assist the healing process by drinking lots of water to stay hydrated and using high-quality moisturizers and serums.

Since your skin is highly absorbent in the days following your treatment, any products you use will be incredibly productive.

Results

You may notice an immediate improvement to your skin’s radiance and texture. In addition, your skin will feel soft and smooth and have an overall glow from your skin rejuvenation procedure.

Within a few days, you will experience a skin tightening effect, as your wrinkles appear smoother, and your scarring will begin to lift from the increase in collagen production.

Hyperpigmented areas should fade and appear noticeably lighter by the time your treatment plan is complete. Overall, patients who complete microneedling treatments report their skin is healthier-looking, smoother, and offers a glowing, even tone.

Vivace Fractional Microneedle RF vs. Skin Pen

At SafiraMD, we offer two popular microneedling treatment options: the Vivace Fractional Microneedle RF and the SkinPen. So how do you know which one is right for you?

SkinPen

The SkinPen is the first FDA-approved microneedling device for correcting multiple skin concerns, including:

  • Enlarged pores
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Acne scarring
  • Dull skin tone and texture
  • Hyperpigmentation

The SkinPen is a small, handheld device with several tiny needles at one end. It slowly moves over the treatment area and quickly penetrates the skin tissue. The SkinPen is ideal for skin rejuvenation, fading the signs of aging and scarring, and reducing hyperpigmentation.

Vivace Fractional Microneedle RF

If skin tightening is your biggest skin concern, then the Vivace Fractional Microneedle RF will be your best bet in the fight against skin laxity. Vivace RF offers the same treatments as the SkinPen, but also emits radiofrequency energy to tighten sagging skin.

By permeating the skin’s tissue to the subdermal layer, Vivace RF heats and tightens the foundational skin tissue and offers real-time results. This process occurs in a single step, not adding time to your procedure.

Over time, everyone’s skin loses its youthfulness, but that doesn’t mean it has to be gone forever. Instead, you can restore the smooth, even, healthy-looking skin of your youth using your body’s healing process through microneedling.
